2024 SEASON FAQ
TICKETS
How do I book a ticket?
We do not operate a pre-booking system.
Are there set times of entry into the Grotto, or guided tours?
No. Check our opening hours on the Visit page, as these vary throughout the year. During opening hours, we don't operate guided tours or set admission slot times. We do restrict visitor numbers in the Grotto, both to protect the mosaic and ensure you have the best visit. This means that at very busy times you might be asked to wait before entering; this is normally for 15 minutes maximum and usually much less.
I’m a Friend, do I need to bring my card?
Yes please! In order to gain free admission, please bring your Friends card.
AT THE GROTTO
What happens when I arrive?
Come and see us at the desk and we'll advise you of the entrance prices and explain a little about your visit. If you want more detailed information on what to expect before your visit our Accessibility information might help - we have a Social Story, a Sensory Map and an Access Statement.
Will the Grotto be crowded?
We do restrict visitor numbers into the Grotto - however, it is a small, underground space and we ask everyone to be mindful of others and their concerns.
Is the shop open?
Yes, the shop is open. We accept contactless card payments and cash.
Online shopping is available here.
Do you have toilets on site?
We have only one public toilet on site. Please be considerate and leave the space as you would wish to find it.
Can we bring bikes / scooters / prams / rucksacks / luggage?
Large items such as rucksacks / scooters / suitcases etc cannot be taken into the Grotto because of the delicate nature of the structure. Please leave them with a member of staff at reception. We cannot be responsible for the safety or security of any personal possessions.
Are dogs allowed?
No, with the exception of assistance dogs, dogs are not allowed in the Grotto, but are welcome in the shop.
